Canon has released what it calls the world’s slimmest super zoom camera – the PowerShot SD4500 IS (IXUS 1000 HS in Europe). Measuring 22mm at the thinnest side, it features the company’s ‘HS’ system first featured in the SD4000 IS, promising better low-light performance and high-speed photography. It shares the same 10MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor and 2.7 inch LCD as the SD4000 IS, but offers a longer 10x zoom range starting at a rather over-long 36mm equivalent. The image-stabilized camera ..read more

Sony Introduces 3D-capable Cyber-shot Cameras

Looks like the 3D craze is coming to Sony’s digital cameras too, as the company has unveiled three new Cyber-shot cameras, the TX9, WX5, and the T99. The TX9 and WX5 have a rather interesting 3D Sweep Panorama feature, which allows them to create a 3D image that is viewable (in 3D) on a supporting computer or TV. Another neat feature is Sweep Multi Angle that uses 15 different angles to create a 3D image that ..read more

Camera collecting really came of age in the 1970s at a time when galloping technology was rapidly transforming traditional photography and its tools.

As electronic and computerised components took on the actual process of taking a photograph, so did the previous tools become obsolescent.

It goes almost without ..read more

Ricoh GXR with GR prime lens camera unit_product shot.jpg

Smaller companies often take a different and braver route in satisfying demand for digital cameras. This particular bunch of boxes is Ricoh’s answer to the need for more compact, versatile, yet more powerful digital capture devices.

Described as ‘the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera system’ the Ricoh GXR unit integrates lens, image sensor and image processing engine into a single interchangeable unit: when you change the lens, you also change the sensor, shutter, aperture, processing engine plus the motors ..read more

Michael and Monica Sweet have done something the rest of us often dream about.  They have taken a mutual love for photography and travel and turned it into a profitable business, both through stock photography and gallery work at Gallery Sweet.  Unlike my recent traveling photographer interviewee, Gary Arndt, the Sweets focus mainly on their home state of Hawaii and some of the Pacific Islands.  With their specialization in the Islands and variety of work, I wanted to get ..read more

Author Edwardes admits that the advent of digital cameras has revolutionised his work and aims this book at photographers of all skill levels. The technical requirements he stresses are stringent but he adds ..read more
